Since 1912, US voter turnout during midterm elections has never gone higher than 50%.
In 2014, it reached its lowest rate yet, with only 36.7% of eligible voters casting a vote.
For a country that prides itself on being a bastion of democracy and republic government for the rest of the world, these turnout rates are unacceptably low. With inflation, abortion rights, and gun control all becoming major legislative issues following recent events, it is imperative now more than ever that the people of the United State vote on who represents them in their legislature, no matter what political preference you have.
As high school students who care deeply about how this nation progresses politically, we could not stand by as people who have the ability to vote choose not to use it. Thus, Project Midterm was founded to encourage citizens to vote and provide youth with the power to participate in American democracy to the fullest extent. Project Midterm aims to facilitate voting through initiatives like registration drives and educate voters on elections and the candidates running in them.
